This fall we will be hiring up to 12 youthworkers. Fall on the farm means a lot of cleanup in the gardens; pulling plants and weeds, doing the last of the harvesting and getting the greenhouse ready for next year. Fall is the time to fill up the sugar house woodshed so we have dry wood for spring sugaring. In addition to the Youthwork crews, farm production at Smokey House is supported by farm volunteers or WWOOFers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms). The suggested length of stay for volunteers is a minimum of one month. We are especially interested in people who could come from April through October, but shorter stays are also possible. In general we expect about a 30 hour work week. Some weekends for farmer’s markets and chores, and some evenings and/or weekends for haying, sugaring or lambing (depending on the season) would probably be part of the mix.
